Therapy North

How it works

From first hello to first session, in five steps

Reaching out is the hardest bit. Everything that follows is designed to be straightforward and human.

  1. 1

Take the 5-question Therapist Match Quiz

It takes under two minutes. We ask about what's bringing you, your preferred format, any therapist preferences, your past experience, and your timeline. There are no wrong answers — and nothing identifying yet.

  2. 2

    Review your matched therapist profile

We send you 1–2 carefully matched therapists. You'll see their full profile: experience, approach, qualifications, photo and what to expect in their sessions. If they're not right, just tell us and we'll match again — no awkwardness.

  3. 3

    Send an enquiry

Send a short enquiry to your therapist using our form. They'll reply to arrange a time that works — daytime, evening, or weekend — and let you know what to expect ahead of your first session, in person or online.

  4. 4

    Your first session

First sessions are about meeting each other. Your therapist will ask what's bringing you and what you'd like to get from the work. You don't need to prepare anything — just turn up.

  5. 5

    Ongoing support

Most people come weekly to start, then space sessions out as things settle. You're always in control — switch therapist, pause, or stop at any point.

Frequently asked

Your questions, answered

How much does therapy cost?
Sessions are typically £60–£140 depending on the therapist and therapy type. CBT and ACT are usually £70–95, counselling £60–85, and couples therapy £110–140 (60–90 min). We hold a small number of sliding-scale spaces — please ask.
How long does therapy take?
It depends. Focused CBT for a specific issue often takes 8–20 sessions. Counselling and psychotherapy can be short-term (6–12) or open-ended. We'll review progress with you regularly.
What's the difference between CBT, counselling and ACT?
CBT is structured and active — it helps you change unhelpful patterns. Counselling is a confidential space to be heard and understood. ACT is mindfulness-based and helps you live well alongside difficult feelings. The Match Quiz helps us suggest which fits you best.
Can I switch therapists if it's not the right fit?
Absolutely, and it happens — fit matters a lot in therapy. Just tell us and we'll re-match, with no awkwardness.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. All therapists are bound by professional ethics (BACP, BABCP, HCPC). Confidentiality is only ever broken in the rare circumstance of serious risk to life — and we'd discuss it with you first wherever possible.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Yes. Several of our therapists hold evening and weekend slots. The Match Quiz factors this in.
